Even novice duffers who occasionally confuse their nine irons with pitching wedges get glassy-eyed when people speak of Scotland. Scotland is recognized as the birthplace of golf and every club-swinger on the planet longs for the opportunity to play its famous courses. It's been that way since the days when woods were really wood (shaft and all) and it will continue as equipment and strategy continue to become more technologically advanced. The Royal Aberdeen Golf Club is one of the game's most famed institutions and is recognized everywhere as a living part of golf's history.

Aberdeen golf was already flourishing when, in 1780, local linksmen formed a club known as the Society of Golfers at Aberdeen. By the early 1800s it was knows as the Aberdeen Golf Club and its members drove and putted their way through countless holes at the beautiful Queen's Links and Broad Hill.

In the waning years of the nineteenth century, the club changed its official course, moving to the now-famed Blagownie just on the outskirts of Aberdeen. Less than twenty years later, in 1803, King Edward VII bestowed a "Royal" designation on the club, which hereafter has been known as the Royal Aberdeen Golf Club.

The Club still calls Blagownie home. The Simpson-designed course is set against the shore of the North Sea. The surrounding natural beauty provides a classic backdrop for a course that has stood the test of time. It's a wonderfully diverse set of links that forces golfers to utilize their whole game. The Royal Aberdeen Golf Club's course is considered an ideal example of the Scottish model, snaking over 6,400 to 6,800 total yards with a par score that varies between 70 and 71 depending upon its set up.

Club members are rightfully proud of Blagownie, but they don't limit themselves exclusively to the course. Members also play the newer, yet still decidedly traditional, Silverburn course for variety.

The significance of Blagownie and the Aberdeen club to the golf world is hard to overestimate. It's not just an old club that has stood the test of time. It's more than a host to major tournaments including British Senior Open and an upcoming Walker Cup. It's part of golf's very fiber. Famed Bernard Darwin once argued that playing Blagownie closed a "huge gap in [his] golfing education" and referred to the course as "noble links." Blagownie is more than eighteen holes, it's one of golf's great outdoor cathedrals and the members of the Royal Aberdeen Golf Club serve as its clergy.

Countless golfers have made the trip to northeast Scotland to play these courses and to enjoy the hospitality of one of the game's oldest clubs. It's nothing short of living history and a round there will often become part of a player's greatest memories.

The Baltusrol Golf Club

The Baltusrol Golf Club in northern New Jersey at the foot of Baltusrol Mountain has been in operation since 1895. It's a private club with two top notch courses, the Lower and Upper, and there's been sixteen major championships played at Baltusrol during its long history.

Let's take a look at some of the holes on the the Lower course and see what's in store for us. The first is a 478 yard Par 5 that is almost perfectly straight from tee to green. The fairway narrows down about halfway to the hole and there are traps left and right that will catch mid-length hitters that stray off the fairway. If you're lucky enough to drop one on the narrow fairway, then you're looking at a second shot toward a fairly small green that's fronted left and right with pretty substantial traps. All in all, a good test of your strength and nerve, and its only the first hole.

The third is a 451 yard Par 4 with a dogleg left and a narrow fairway once again. If you miss left or right here and you're in serious trouble in the trees. If you survive your tee shot it's another 200 yards or so to a pretty small circular green amply guarded by sand on the front left and right. Going over the green is not recommended because those nasty trees are lurking there again. As before, accuracy and nerve are called for in big doses.

If you're running out of steam at the end of your round, the 17th will not make you happy.
It's a 570 yard Par 5 monster with a two-part fairway divided by what looks like the Sahara Desert, but is really 6 separate sand traps. Once past that little obstacle, you've still got 150 yards to go and some more traps around the green. If you're going to miss the fairway on 17, miss left, where you might have a chance to recover. The right side of the fairway is a solid line of trees.

As you may have guessed, the 18th is not any easier or shorter. You need to conquer a 520 yard Par 5 before you get a chance to stroll triumphantly into the clubhouse. This time it's a dogleg left with a a little creek running across the fairway at about 300 yards. Most of us merely human players will lay up short of the hazard and hope to layup short of the green and get on in 3. If you have the strength left to two putt, do it, and call it a victory.

Playing a course like the Lower at Baltusrol is a great reminder that the guys who do this for a living and make it look so easy really are extremely talented athletes. The rest us should just enjoy the occasional good shot and the camaraderie of friends on a weekend afternoon and be grateful that someone invented such a crazy and satisfying game.

Planning a Scotland Golf Vacation

Planning Ahead

When is the best time to go, High season for golf is May to October, best weather is July & August, you should try to start planning at least 6 months out but 1 year out is better.

All U.S. Citizens traveling in Europe must have a valid passport good for the duration of their visit. If you do not have a passport, apply for one at your local passport office, clerk of the federal state court, or designated post office. Allow several weeks for the government to process your application. You do not need a visa to visit Scotland.

Your passport will be inspected in your home city airport and again upon arrival into Europe.
As a safety measure, I would suggest that you photocopy the front pages of your passport, airline tickets and everything you will be carrying in your wallet. Leave one copy at home and carry one copy separate from your passport. This will be of immense help to you if your documents are lost or stolen.

Golf Information

Caddies are self employed people and work when they want to work. They do not belong to the golf course. Even though we can request them in advance, there is no guarantee that they will turn up. Caddie fees start from £40 for Scotland Appropriate tip is £5 - 10 (depending on the quality of the caddie). Pull carts are available at approximately £5 for Great per round. Electric carts are scarce, but are available at some of the courses. A medical certificate might be required to obtain a cart.

Due to the above I suggest you take a small lightweight golf bag. It will be easier to carry and pack. I also recommend you do not leave your golf bag unattended at any time, either at the golf course or in your car.

Overseas clubs do not provide tees and pencils. You may wish to bring your own supply. Golf balls are more expensive in Europe. Once again, we suggest you bring your own supply. Other handy items: Band-Aids and sun block. Two pair of golf shoes should be plenty - preferably soft spikes. Make sure they are well broken in before you travel.

Although you will be traveling during the dry season, there is always the possibility of rain. I suggest you bring an umbrella and a wind-breaker.

Most of the golf courses you will play will be private clubs. Please check-in with the starter/caddie master at least 20 minutes before play. Each club will advise you of individual rules and regulations. At some clubs, a coat and tie are necessary to use all the facilities of the clubhouse. It is not necessary to wear a coat and tie to play golf.

In most cases there is a handicap limit for men and ladies. This may vary, for men 18-24 and for women 30-36. Please carry your handicap card from your golf club with you at all times, as you may be asked to produce it to verify your handicap.

In Scotland all rounds of golf are expected to play in less than 4 hours per round. Please try to enjoy your round and keep up with the players in front of you. If you fall more than a hole behind, please wave the group behind you through so the flow of play continues. Also, it is a good idea to allow the local members to play through.

As most of the courses you will be playing do not have electric carts, you will be required to walk, and in some cases, you may have to also carry your bag. Each round may consist of walking up to 5 miles, we strongly suggest that prior to your vacation you begin a walking program of a few holes each time out until you are gradually walking the entire course. By the time you leave you should be able to easily walk and play 18 holes. This will make your golfing adventure more enjoyable

What to Take.

Two words say it best... TRAVEL LIGHT. You will enjoy your vacation more with a suitcase which isn't too heavy.

Don't forget to take your AIRLINE TICKETS AND PASSPORT!! Always be sure to check your airline tickets as soon as you receive them to be sure that they are accurate and complete. DO NOT pack your airline tickets or passport in your suitcase and DO NOT carry your airline tickets around with you. It is a good idea to use the hotel safe for valuables.

I suggest that you do not take large amounts of cash, but instead take a widely recognized credit card. Be sure to make a list of your credit card and check numbers and keep it in a separate place from your wallet, purse or passport. ATM machines are available in Europe and your US ATM cards can be used. Be sure to check with your bank what the charges will be. The banks are also a good place to change money and are open Monday - Friday usually 9:00am - 4:00pm. It is more expensive to change money at travel agencies or hotels.

Great Britain uses (Pounds).

Temperatures in Scotland can range between 55 degrees in April and October, and 77 degrees in mid July and August. However, the weather can vary and you should pack with this in mind. I would recommend a warm sweater, as there are cool winds usually present on the coastal courses. A summary of current weather conditions can be obtained by internet.

For the men: Sports Coat (A jacket and tie can be required for dinner in hotels. Jackets may be required in some of the clubhouses). 2 or 3 pairs of pants, 2 sweaters - one for golf and one multipurpose, two pair of walking shoes, and several golf shirts. Most courses do allow shorts with the exception of Royal Troon. However, we do not suggest that you pack more than one or two pairs of shorts as most of the time the weather will dictate that you wear pants. Note: At Western Gailes tailored shorts can be worn, but with knee length socks.

For the ladies: Dress code for dinner at hotels can be described as smart. Slacks are acceptable attire. Walking shoes are essential, as is a warm jacket.

You should ensure that all electrical appliances, such as shavers and hairdryers, can be used on Scottish voltage, which is 240AC. Some hotels will supply adapters upon request, although we recommend that you carry one.

Only a few years ago Cat Ba Island was a virtual paradise / wasteland, depending on what side of the development divide you stood, with few hotels of that elusive 'International standard. The town has certainly come on in some not-inconsiderable steps since and these days the view from the approaching hydrofoil is that of a nearly-built up holiday hotspot, with some hotel towers rising well over 10 stories and looking almost ill at ease against the verdant backdrop of the island.

Cat Ba water park resort is less obtrusive than the high rises and crowded buildings of the town. Though the swimming pool can be seen from the sea there's a more seamless look to the place. It doesn't jar with its surroundings.

Cat Ba water Park resort has the all-important things a resort should have and a few nice extras you'd wish more did have. Set only a couple of minutes' walk to the main beach, the densely-packed Cat Co 1, and sharing the sand of its kind-of private beach with it, Cat Ba water park resort has those out-to-see views that can cost much more in other places. The standard rooms are comfortably sized and decked out in white wicker. All have private balconies overlooking the sea and are the kind of light and breezy space you hope desperately for when booking at a beach resort - a perfect complement to the gorgeous view.

The seemingly large selection of TV channels is, in fact, small. Unless you're a fan of state-run television, of course. The mini-bar offers a little more than many hotels', with small small bottles of spirits along with the two cans of Tiger beer and soft drinks.

Cat Ba Water Park Resort has three restaurants, the western Captain's Cup, a mainly al fresco dining experience which includes seating in the prow of a ship and overlloks the private pool, the Asian-style Seashare restaurant and the upper-level Pirate's Grill.

A set menu at the Captain's Cup will set you back 120 000VND and consists of a salad, a soup, a main and a fruit plate. This being Cat Ba Island there is an obvious focus on seafood.

Cat ba Water Park Resort is still quite obviously finding its feet, but already the place is a relaxing way to spend a few days away from the city, or a luxurious alternative to sleeping on-board a boat at Ha Long Bay.

Central Costa Brava

Club de Golf Girona

GOLF GIRONA is an 18-hole, par 72 golf course designed by the prestigious English architect F.W. Hawtree, seeded entirely with Penncross, the best quality grass for playing golf.

A course that is entirely adapted to its natural surroundings, without any antennas, power lines or highways crossing it, featuring an advanced sprinkling system using regenerated water from Girona's purification plant, and meeting the most up-to-date environmental standards.

The top nine holes are extremely competitive - their design requires players to use all the clubs in their bags. The bottom nine are simply spectacular, with all the tees set atop walls built with Girona stone, offering impressive panoramic views of the fairways. It is a true pleasure to follow the flight of the ball towards its destination, and encourages many players to take out their woods. When Mr. Hawtree designed this part of the course, he probably wanted players to feel as good as possible after having completed the rigorous top nine.

Emporda Golf club

The Emporda Golf course offers a total of 36 holes, divided into two separate 18-hole courses: Links and Forest. The course was designed by Robert von Hagge, who chose to integrate a links-style course with two large lakes, dunes and rolling bunkers into a classic Mediterranean landscape replete with dense, manicured pine stands and spacious fairways. To this end, he was able to take full advantage of the natural beauty of the setting itself: stunning El Baix Emporda in the heart of the Costa Brava region.

With the inauguration of the final 9 holes, the course came to offer a total of two separate 18-hole courses. The first, called LINKS, spans dunes and lakes in a style reminiscent of the world-famous greens of Scotland. The second, FOREST, is more Mediterranean in style and winds invitingly through pine trees and lakes.

The Emporda Golf has been chosen as one of the Top Ten Golf Courses in Spain, recognized by the prestigious "Peugeot Guide" which has granted us a mark of 17/20 in the ranking of the 100 best golf courses. Furthermore, the famous American magazine "Golf World" has placed us in position 13 of the best courses in Spain. Under the management of the English architect Mr. Fred Hawtree, who from the very beginning worked closely with the plans of the Parera-Coll family. The first holes on the first Costa Brava golf course were inaugurated in the summer of 1966, and soon after, in 1968 the extension of the course was undertaken with nine holes more until the 18 regulation holes stipulation was fulfilled. The new regulation course was inaugurated in 1970 with the celebration of the "Spanish International Amateur Championship". Two years later, the Golf Platja de Pals, held the "1972 Spanish Open".

Since then the course has been considered as one of the finest in Spain thanks to its design and construction, and it has been the venue of numerous international competitions.

The North Coast

Peralada Golf Club

An outstanding 18-hole par 71 course with a 6,071 metres layout and 4 tees boxes per hole. With few slopes and different areas with lakes, trees and lush manicured gardens it is a suitable course for players of all levels.

Club de Golf Costa Brava

The 18-hole Golf course inaugurated in 1968 was designed by Hamilton Stutt & Co. It combines a very technical course in the first round with a more relaxed one in the second. The first nine holes, surrounded by pine and cork oak forests, differ from the other nine located on the flat with very wide fairways, leading to the 18th hole, below the Casa Club, a typical 1841 Catalan farmhouse.

Club Golf D'Aro - Mas Nou lies between the towns of Platja d'Aro and Santa Cristina d'Aro up in the Les Gavarres mountains at 300 m above sea level. The Club Golf D'Aro - Mas Nou was designed by architect Ramon Espinosa. It features a par 72, 18-hole championship course and a 9-hole (Pitch & Putt) course, both of them in the heart of nature and with spectacular views of the Costa Brava, Les Gavarres, Montseny and the Valle de La Selva.

Planning a Scotland Golf Vacation

Planning Ahead

When is the best time to go, High season for golf is May to October, best weather is July & August, you should try to start planning at least 6 months out but 1 year out is better.

All U.S. Citizens traveling in Europe must have a valid passport good for the duration of their visit. If you do not have a passport, apply for one at your local passport office, clerk of the federal state court, or designated post office. Allow several weeks for the government to process your application. You do not need a visa to visit Scotland.

Your passport will be inspected in your home city airport and again upon arrival into Europe.
As a safety measure, I would suggest that you photocopy the front pages of your passport, airline tickets and everything you will be carrying in your wallet. Leave one copy at home and carry one copy separate from your passport. This will be of immense help to you if your documents are lost or stolen.

Golf Information

Caddies are self employed people and work when they want to work. They do not belong to the golf course. Even though we can request them in advance, there is no guarantee that they will turn up. Caddie fees start from £40 for Scotland Appropriate tip is £5 - 10 (depending on the quality of the caddie). Pull carts are available at approximately £5 for Great per round. Electric carts are scarce, but are available at some of the courses. A medical certificate might be required to obtain a cart.

Due to the above I suggest you take a small lightweight golf bag. It will be easier to carry and pack. I also recommend you do not leave your golf bag unattended at any time, either at the golf course or in your car.

Overseas clubs do not provide tees and pencils. You may wish to bring your own supply. Golf balls are more expensive in Europe. Once again, we suggest you bring your own supply. Other handy items: Band-Aids and sun block. Two pair of golf shoes should be plenty - preferably soft spikes. Make sure they are well broken in before you travel.

Although you will be traveling during the dry season, there is always the possibility of rain. I suggest you bring an umbrella and a wind-breaker.

Most of the golf courses you will play will be private clubs. Please check-in with the starter/caddie master at least 20 minutes before play. Each club will advise you of individual rules and regulations. At some clubs, a coat and tie are necessary to use all the facilities of the clubhouse. It is not necessary to wear a coat and tie to play golf.

In most cases there is a handicap limit for men and ladies. This may vary, for men 18-24 and for women 30-36. Please carry your handicap card from your golf club with you at all times, as you may be asked to produce it to verify your handicap.

In Scotland all rounds of golf are expected to play in less than 4 hours per round. Please try to enjoy your round and keep up with the players in front of you. If you fall more than a hole behind, please wave the group behind you through so the flow of play continues. Also, it is a good idea to allow the local members to play through.

As most of the courses you will be playing do not have electric carts, you will be required to walk, and in some cases, you may have to also carry your bag. Each round may consist of walking up to 5 miles, we strongly suggest that prior to your vacation you begin a walking program of a few holes each time out until you are gradually walking the entire course. By the time you leave you should be able to easily walk and play 18 holes. This will make your golfing adventure more enjoyable

What to Take.

Two words say it best... TRAVEL LIGHT. You will enjoy your vacation more with a suitcase which isn't too heavy.

Don't forget to take your AIRLINE TICKETS AND PASSPORT!! Always be sure to check your airline tickets as soon as you receive them to be sure that they are accurate and complete. DO NOT pack your airline tickets or passport in your suitcase and DO NOT carry your airline tickets around with you. It is a good idea to use the hotel safe for valuables.

I suggest that you do not take large amounts of cash, but instead take a widely recognized credit card. Be sure to make a list of your credit card and check numbers and keep it in a separate place from your wallet, purse or passport. ATM machines are available in Europe and your US ATM cards can be used. Be sure to check with your bank what the charges will be. The banks are also a good place to change money and are open Monday - Friday usually 9:00am - 4:00pm. It is more expensive to change money at travel agencies or hotels.

Great Britain uses (Pounds).

Temperatures in Scotland can range between 55 degrees in April and October, and 77 degrees in mid July and August. However, the weather can vary and you should pack with this in mind. I would recommend a warm sweater, as there are cool winds usually present on the coastal courses. A summary of current weather conditions can be obtained by internet.

For the men: Sports Coat (A jacket and tie can be required for dinner in hotels. Jackets may be required in some of the clubhouses). 2 or 3 pairs of pants, 2 sweaters - one for golf and one multipurpose, two pair of walking shoes, and several golf shirts. Most courses do allow shorts with the exception of Royal Troon. However, we do not suggest that you pack more than one or two pairs of shorts as most of the time the weather will dictate that you wear pants. Note: At Western Gailes tailored shorts can be worn, but with knee length socks.

For the ladies: Dress code for dinner at hotels can be described as smart. Slacks are acceptable attire. Walking shoes are essential, as is a warm jacket.

You should ensure that all electrical appliances, such as shavers and hairdryers, can be used on Scottish voltage, which is 240AC. Some hotels will supply adapters upon request, although we recommend that you carry one.

The Boulders North Course

If you haven't golfed in the desert Southwest before, you're in for a real treat. At the Boulders, the green of the fairway grass against the browns of the surrounding Sonoran Desert and the great view of Black Mountain in the distance may distract you from the task at hand. The North Course is an 18 hole, 6811 yard, Par 72 beauty with a 137 slope. Rental equipment is available from the full service pro shop if you happen to show up without your own sticks. Let's take a closer look at some of the holes on the North Course and see what's in store for you.

The first hole is a 513 yard Par 5 that will introduce you to desert sand very quickly if you're not careful. You need to clear about 200 yards of scrub to land on the first part of the two part fairway. The landing area is fairly wide and at least there aren't any trees to cause you additional worry. For most of us, the smart second shot is to layup in front of the sand traps guarding the front of the first green. If you succeed with your second shot, a pitching wedge could get you on the narrow oval-shaped green. Not much room for error on that shot either - too short and you're in the traps in front of the green and too long puts you back in the desert. Assuming you're ready for more, let's keep going.

You can catch your breath a bit on the second hole, which is a 195 yard Par 3. Again you'll need to clear some desert scrub to get to the fairway, but once there, you'll have an essentially unobstructed shot at the pin. No front traps, but be careful not to overshoot because there is a trap in the right back corner of the green.

Let's jump up to the fourteenth hole which will provide another good test of nerve for you. It's a 183 yard Par 3 over a pond that stretches right up to the edge of the green. If you need to land short of the green on the fourteenth, your options are limited to a very narrow fairway to the left of the pond. Go for the green (if you have a few extra balls in your bag.)

The eighteenth hole is no pushover either at 424 yards. It's a Par 4 with a right dogleg that starts about 250 yards from the tee box, so watch you're driving distance or once again you'll end up in the desert. Stay in play on the fairway and the approach to the green isn't too intimidating and you could finish your round on the North Course with a Par.

If you're staying at the resort, a visit to the Golden Door Spa could be just the thing after 18 holes. You can indulge yourself with special Native American wraps and therapies and there are Yoga and Pilates classes available too. You really have to go to Boulders resort site online and look at some of the pictures of the course and the pueblo style accommodations. Words don't do the Boulders justice. It's a beautiful place and well worth a visit.

Golf is one of the more popular activities to participate in the Costa Brava, great new courses are appearing each year and the selection of where to play is becoming just as difficult as producing a 'hole-in-one'.

A selection of the best are detailed below:

Central Costa Brava

Club de Golf Girona

GOLF GIRONA is an 18-hole, par 72 golf course designed by the prestigious English architect F.W. Hawtree, seeded entirely with Penncross, the best quality grass for playing golf.

A course that is entirely adapted to its natural surroundings, without any antennas, power lines or highways crossing it, featuring an advanced sprinkling system using regenerated water from Girona's purification plant, and meeting the most up-to-date environmental standards.

The top nine holes are extremely competitive - their design requires players to use all the clubs in their bags. The bottom nine are simply spectacular, with all the tees set atop walls built with Girona stone, offering impressive panoramic views of the fairways. It is a true pleasure to follow the flight of the ball towards its destination, and encourages many players to take out their woods. When Mr. Hawtree designed this part of the course, he probably wanted players to feel as good as possible after having completed the rigorous top nine.

Emporda Golf club

The Emporda Golf course offers a total of 36 holes, divided into two separate 18-hole courses: Links and Forest. The course was designed by Robert von Hagge, who chose to integrate a links-style course with two large lakes, dunes and rolling bunkers into a classic Mediterranean landscape replete with dense, manicured pine stands and spacious fairways. To this end, he was able to take full advantage of the natural beauty of the setting itself: stunning El Baix Emporda in the heart of the Costa Brava region.

With the inauguration of the final 9 holes, the course came to offer a total of two separate 18-hole courses. The first, called LINKS, spans dunes and lakes in a style reminiscent of the world-famous greens of Scotland. The second, FOREST, is more Mediterranean in style and winds invitingly through pine trees and lakes.

The Emporda Golf has been chosen as one of the Top Ten Golf Courses in Spain, recognized by the prestigious "Peugeot Guide" which has granted us a mark of 17/20 in the ranking of the 100 best golf courses. Furthermore, the famous American magazine "Golf World" has placed us in position 13 of the best courses in Spain. EG was made the permanent headquarters for the PGA Pre-Qualifying School II European Tour and, since 2002-2003, has hosted the PGA Qualifying School European Tour Final and the Peugeot Tour Emporda Golf in 2006 and 2007.

Golf Platja de Pals

Under the management of the English architect Mr. Fred Hawtree, who from the very beginning worked closely with the plans of the Parera-Coll family. The promoters displayed a marked respect for the environment, up to the point where they did not allow a single pine tree to be felled unless it had been marked beforehand

The first holes on the first Costa Brava golf course were inaugurated in the summer of 1966, and soon after, in 1968 the extension of the course was undertaken with nine holes more until the 18 regulation holes stipulation was fulfilled. The new regulation course was inaugurated in 1970 with the celebration of the "Spanish International Amateur Championship". Two years later, the Golf Platja de Pals, held the "1972 Spanish Open".

Since then the course has been considered as one of the finest in Spain thanks to its design and construction, and it has been the venue of numerous international competitions.

The North Coast

Peralada Golf Club

An outstanding 18-hole par 71 course with a 6,071 metres layout and 4 tees boxes per hole. With few slopes and different areas with lakes, trees and lush manicured gardens it is a suitable course for players of all levels.

It blends in perfectly with its surroundings, being environmental preservation and nature protection present all along the area. It was the first European golf course to hold the UE Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) certificate.

From its opening in 1993 it has been awarded as the best golf course of the Costa Brava on several occasions and the Emerging Golf Destination of 2000 -with the other Costa Brava-Girona Golf Association golf courses- by IAGTO (International Association of Golf Tour Operators).

It has welcomed many competitions and tournaments of the highest level such as the Open Catalonia 95, the Pre-Qualifiying School PGA tests and the Seniors Qualifying School.

Torremirona Golf Club

An exclusive 18 hole, championship golf course, designed and immaculately maintained throughout the year, offers the golfer spectacular views whilst navigating the various lakes and undulating greens.

The South Coast

Club de Golf Costa Brava

The 18-hole Golf course inaugurated in 1968 was designed by Hamilton Stutt & Co. It combines a very technical course in the first round with a more relaxed one in the second. The first nine holes, surrounded by pine and cork oak forests, differ from the other nine located on the flat with very wide fairways, leading to the 18th hole, below the Casa Club, a typical 1841 Catalan farmhouse.

The Club is private but Green Fees are accepted throughout the year.

Club de Golf d'Aro-Masnou

Club Golf D'Aro - Mas Nou lies between the towns of Platja d'Aro and Santa Cristina d'Aro up in the Les Gavarres mountains at 300 m above sea level. It is one of the oldest golf courses on the Costa Brava, featuring more than a thousand olive trees together with pines and cork trees and two large artificial lakes covering 2,600 m3.

The Club Golf D'Aro - Mas Nou was designed by architect Ramon Espinosa. It features a par 72, 18-hole championship course and a 9-hole (Pitch & Putt) course, both of them in the heart of nature and with spectacular views of the Costa Brava, Les Gavarres, Montseny and the Valle de La Selva.
